“If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love you very much.”
The ending line from a poem written by Mary Oliver, read aloud during Nikki & Nolan’s ceremony. Their day, and this film, is an ode to being invited into someone’s world. To being seen, cherished, and known. To being chosen.
Nikki & Nolan met in acting class and were married several years later on the same day that they first met. For their wedding celebration, they chose a Fall day in Ithaca, NY with only a small number of witnesses surrounding them. Leaves were falling, and the rain moved through quietly.
At the reception, Nolan performed a song he had written for his bride. It wasn’t announced, but rather simply happened. The words “I love you to the crescent moon” surfaced throughout the day, from their vows to his song, again and again.
Their entire day resisted show and formula. It favored genuine interaction over choreography, attention over spectacle. What remained was simple and honest.
